Favorable Supreme Court Ruling for Foreign Companies on Jurisdiction

Coincidentally with our recent blog on jurisdiction Where Can You Sue or Be Sued?, the U.S. Supreme Court published its ruling in Daimler AG v. Barbara Bauman, et al. The decision should give comfort to foreign companies trading with the U.S. in that the Court ruled that having an agent or subsidiary in the U.S. is not, by itself, an adequate basis to subject the foreign company to jurisdiction in U.S. Courts.
